Live Facebook Sale, featuring La Jolla from Baah! Yarns

La Jolla Live Sale!My live box opening videos on Facebook are super popular, which I think is awesome. You all do love to watch me be a dork and moon over every bit of yarn I get in!! I’ve decided to step up my game a bit, so in addition to just opening a box of brand new yarn on Friday at 4:30p, you all will have the first opportunity to score a skein (or five or ten… whatever you need!). Here’s how YOU can participate:
  1. Head over to YG’s Facebook page at 4:30p on Friday afternoon (click here, and make sure you like the page, if you haven’t already, and make sure you are receiving the live notifications).
  2. Watch the live video.
  3. Participate by sharing, commenting, oohing and ahhing over your favorites.
  4. If you see a color that you want to purchase, comment “sold” + a description (either the name, the color, etc) and how many hanks.
  5. I will follow up after the sale with a message confirming the purchase, and we will arrange payment/shipping from there!
One lucky yarn lover will be chosen to win a free skein, just for watching live, and participating (no purchase necessary… though it is encouraged!!)
So what yarn are you going to be seeing during this grand reveal?  A brand-new-to-YG yarn dyer, Baah! Yarns and their most popular base, La Jolla.  The yarn is a fingering weight, 100% merino wool, lusciously dyed explosion of color. Check it out on Baah’s website, and start making your shopping list:
And if you need some inspiration, check out these patterns on Ravelry!

Jen Lucas is coming!

Book CoversJen Lucas, author of Sock-Yarn Shawls (an awesome book we used at a retreat one year!) is coming to Charlotte for a weekend full of lace and shawls. I am super excited to bring her to mid-Michigan for all of my customers… shawls are one of your favorite things to knit, and you’ll be able to get some great tips, tricks, and techniques from a published designer and author.

Thursday night she’ll be at YG for a book signing/kick off party, where you’ll be able to pick up signed copies of all her books, as well as meet her and get excited about the classes.

Friday is a day of mini-workshops, great for getting in depth on a particular subject in shawls.  Want to get started knitting a shawl, but the cast on has you confused?  Check out the Be Fab with Garter Tab class!Garter Tab Cast On

Do you tend to just stick to the same old bind off for your shawls?  Maybe it ends up a little tight, not allowing the lace to truly block out to its potential.  Then you should check out Decorative Shawl Bind Offs!decorative bind offs

The afternoon will see an interesting look at how changing up your lace stitches can affect your overall look in a project. I am particularly excited about this class… I love learning the technical aspects of the craft and think that “reading” the fabric I create is really cool! The link for that class is here, called Switch a Lace Stitch.Switch A Lace Stitch

The final class of the day offers a look at different ways to edge a shawl, in Lovely Lace Borders.Lovely Lace Borders

Saturday is for all of you that are aspiring designers, or just a person with a vision of a shawl with no pattern.  Jen will be doing a six hour, in depth workshop focusing on designing your OWN top-down shawl… how cool is that!? Click here, Design Your Own Sock-Yarn Shawl, for more details and to sign up!

Friday and Saturday’s events will be held at YG’s neighbor, The Hall (127 S. Cochran), to accommodate the number of students we anticipate signing up.  Check in will be at YG for all classes, and lunch will be provided for Saturday’s students.

Registration for all Jen’s classes will begin at noon on Saturday, August 26th. Set an alarm to be sure to get in!

In Store Sale!

It’s getting close to the time of year that YG begins receiving fall yarns (I know, I know… it’s barely summer. But if we knit for the season that we’re in, how often would we get to wear the item?!). You know what that means…. clearing out some spring/summer yarns to make room for all the new woolly goodness! Starting tomorrow (Friday, June 14th) a number of our warmer weather yarns will be on sale at 25% off, from companies like Noro, Berroco, and Cascade. Hurry in for the best selection… the sale only lasts for a couple weeks!

What We’ll be Knitting – this year, I found a great book that we’ll be using as the basis for our weekend knitalong. It’s called “Sock-Yarn Shawls” by Jen Lucas. There are 15 different shawls to choose from, in three different categories; “Lace-edged”, “Allover Lace”, and “Beyond the Triangle”. It’s a good time to learn to read a chart, since each pattern is written out AND charted, and there is a wide range of skill levels to choose from too. Along with the book, you’ll receive a skein of custom dyed, exclusive sock yarn to knit your shawl with, along with other goodies in your bag. As always, YG’s trio of experts will be on hand to help you with any questions you may encounter along the way.

Deposit* – $100 with sign-up to hold spot
2nd Payment – $100 by Friday, August 30th
Remainder – $55 by Friday, October 18th

*Deposit is non-refundable after August 30th, unless a replacement is found

This is such a fun event, I look forward to spending the weekend with my knitters, just hanging out and having fun. Please call or email me with any questions, I’d love to have you join us!

Join us for a Three Course Yarn Tasting party with Dream In Color!

This fun event will be on March 15th, from 6p – 8p. Each “course” will consist of a mini skein of one of Dream In Color’s worsted weight yarns to play with, and a snack to taste. Dream In Color’s sales rep, Isabel, will be joining us, bringing her color cards and a variety of lace-to-fingering weight yarns for you to buy THAT NIGHT. Come ready to knit with a variety of needles for worsted weight yarn. Your cost to participate is $15, but you’ll receive $10 in credit to be used towards your purchase that night.

But our real purpose for this party is to help you pick out your yarn and color of choice for YG’s next KAL. This time, the KAL options are wide open, with only two constraints. Your project has to be a sweater, and you will be using a worsted weight yarn. Bring your own pattern, or be inspired by one of YG’s picks. We’re planning on starting on April 6th, and we’ll be continuing our first and third Saturday morning meetings. There is limited availability for this event… so stop in soon to reserve your spot!
